Mission

We are dedicated to transforming the way we interact with plastics. Our mission is to lead the charge in creating a sustainable and circular economy for plastics, one that prioritizes environmental stewardship, reduces plastic pollution, and unlocks the economic and environmental potential of this versatile material.

We believe that plastics should no longer be seen as a disposable resource but rather as a valuable asset that can be reused, recycled, and repurposed indefinitely. Our commitment is to:

  • Reduce Plastic Pollution: We are determined to combat the global plastic pollution crisis by diverting plastics away from landfills, oceans, and natural habitats. We advocate for responsible plastic use and disposal, ensuring that plastics are properly managed to minimize harm to our planet.

  • Promote Recycling Innovation: We actively seek innovative technologies and processes to advance plastic recycling and create new, sustainable products. By harnessing cutting-edge techniques, we strive to maximize the recovery of plastics and minimize their environmental footprint.

  • Empower Communities: We believe in the power of education and community engagement. We aim to educate individuals, businesses, and communities about the importance of responsible plastic consumption and recycling, empowering them to make informed choices.

  • Foster Circular Economy: Our vision extends beyond recycling; we aim to drive the transition towards a circular economy for plastics. We collaborate with stakeholders across industries to establish closed-loop systems where plastics are collected, processed, and reintegrated into the supply chain, reducing the need for new plastic production.

  • Champion Sustainable Practices: We advocate for policies and regulations that support sustainable plastic management. We work with governments, businesses, and NGOs to shape a future where plastics serve as a valuable resource without compromising the environment.

Our mission is a call to action, a commitment to a sustainable future where plastics play a vital role without harming our planet. Together, we can reshape the destiny of plastics, making them a symbol of responsible innovation and environmental stewardship.

Join us on this journey towards a world where plastics are part of the solution, not the problem, as we strive for a greener and more sustainable tomorrow.

Goal 1

Assess Current Recycling Practices and Waste Generation

Understanding where we stand is the first step towards improvement.

  • Analyze the types and quantities of waste generated in your community or organization.

  • Evaluate existing and upcoming recycling infrastructure and programs. (Newly Implemented EPR Program for Alberta)

  • Identify areas where improvements can be made.

Goal 2

Set Specific and Measurable Targets with Alberta’s goals

Setting clear goals helps us track progress.

  • Defining measurable targets, such as reducing landfill waste by a specific percentage or increasing recycling rates.

  • Establish goals for recycling different types of plastics.

  • Ensure targets are achievable and time-bound.

Goal 3

Turning sustainability into economic opportunity.

  • Identified opportunities for job creation within these sustainability initiatives. This includes jobs in recycling centers, renewable energy projects, and circular economy businesses.

  • Partnering with local workforce development programs to train and employ individuals in green and sustainable industries.

  • Supporting local entrepreneurs, Universities and startups focused on sustainability and circular economy solutions.

Goal 4

Stay on course and adapt as needed.

  • Regularly monitoring progress using data and key performance indicators.

  • Make adjustments to initiatives as necessary to ensure success.

  • Engage with the community, businesses, and government agencies for feedback and support.

  • Keeping the public informed about achievements and ongoing efforts.

“Creative adaptability is the key to successful conservation.”

History

Operation National Sword was launched by the Chinese government in January 2018 as a crackdown on the import of contaminated and low-quality recyclables, particularly plastics and paper, into the country. It represented a significant policy shift in China's stance on waste imports, aiming to improve environmental standards and reduce pollution caused by improper disposal of foreign waste. This operation resulted in stringent new quality standards for imported recyclables, which had a profound impact on global recycling markets and prompted many countries to reevaluate their waste management practices and seek alternative recycling solutions.

In response to this policy, Recycle Plastics was formed to help Canadians reach their full recycling potential. Dedicated professionals actively research various policies, technologies, and social movements across the globe to bring back for use in the Canadian economy.
